Logos
Here are new logo variations with my new typeface Indicator. I’ve always found that the two words look unbalanced when the star is centered above them, because laboratory is longer than decision. I have been looking at various ways of encasing the words; to create a stronger centered feel, and also to hold the logo/ mark together.
These are the best of my experiments. Which work or don’t work for you?
Keep in mind that this is just for when the logo and mark appear together, they will still be separate at times. In the last two the mark is only implied in the frame, and would only appear by itself.
Also, try to imagine your seeing this for the first time, and what decision laboratory is, and try to forget everything you’ve seen before (not that this is drastically different, it just could affect things).

i do love the start. not feeling the bottom ones so much. reminds me of some charts or diagrams or something medical. maybe experiment with the idea of using the stroke, like in the first examples. different strokes, and weights and bottom vs. top, etc. lookin’ good though!

I could see that, I had to give something new a try though, thanks!

i like the first two, the lines in #2 does help. i heard your concern, they still look unbalance. did you try to put the star on the left of the type?
the indicator type is looking good!

I did in the beginning, and I revisited it today. It just doesnt work right. I need/ want it centered above. By #2 I bet you mean the second with lines?

I could see this just being the top one and it’d be totally OK. Somehow the centering on the star over the words has never bothered me. I do think the logo and the words are a little too close too each other though. When I see this, I also want the type and the lines of the star to be the same thickness, probably because they’re kind of close to being the same.
I could see rules working but I don’t like when they’re longer than the width of the type so much. Maybe if they were shorter.

I like the simpler ones–the first and 3rd one. I think the icon can be moved up a pinch in both cases, its a little to tight against the type.
Also, for the 3rd, I like trying to rule but its not sitting quite right yet. It might be worth shortening them as Jarrod suggested, and trying to line it up up the next highest set of points, or inbetween, or something. Try a few more.
Another thing is, even with the rule, everything looks like it’s the same weight, which is something we discussed in class. Did you try making something slightly heavier or thinner? Perhaps the one of the triangles is a little heavier and the others set back. Not sure if this will look right, but it would be good to see.

Oh, and duh–the typeface itself look amaz. Great job.

Right now, the star and rule lines are half of the thickness of the letters. When they are the same it seemed the star was too strong, but I will try and post all variations mentioned above, and we’ll see how it plays out.
In a few hours.

Overall they feel like a sterile science lab. The first few feel the most resolved, but since they are all so close to the same concept, they all have about the same impact.
